Our Priests

Fr. Mina Kamel Yanni
Fr. MinaHis Holiness Pope Shenouda III delegated Fr. Mina Kamel Yanni, who was ordained priest on May 24, 1963 and who was serving in St. Mary’s church in Omraneya, Giza, to serve in the United States of America. Fr. Mina arrived in New York on September 14, 1972, and started serving in St. Mary and St. Antonius’ church in Queens, while negotiations were ongoing to purchase a new church located in Brooklyn. The celebration of the opening of the church occurred on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1972, with a night of prayer, in celebration of the New Year. Since then Fr. Mina has been shepherding his people with purity, loyalty and in the fear of God. Through his hard work and service and through the grace of God the church has grown and its member have greatly increased.

Fr. Armia Taofiles
Fr. ArmiaAs the services increased the ordination of a second priest seemed necessary. Hence, the congregation chose Engineer Magdy Taofles to become St. George’s second priest who was to assist and serve the ever-growing Brooklyn Coptic population. Magdy was an honest servant for the college youth and lectured in the Sunday nightly youth meetings. On November 15, 2000 Magdy was ordained priest by Pope Shenouda III and was named after the lamenting prophet Jeremiah. Since then Fr. Armia continues to serve the people of Christ in humility and love.

Fr. Luke Awad
Fr. LukaOn Sunday, November 13, 2005 His Holiness Pope Shenouda III performed the sacrament of ordination of the apostolic tradition by the laying of the hands on Dr. Nabil Awad, Pharm. D. to serve as St. George’s third priest. He was ordained as Fr. Luke as was celebrated in his church on December 30, 2005.. Fr. Luke had grown in the church and had served Saint George Church for over 20 years. His ordination is reminiscent of the words of Christ who had said, “The harvest is great but the laborers are few” (Luke 10:2). Fr. Luke served with honesty and love and Christ had fulfilled his promise in him; as he was honest in what is least he was given authority over great things (Luke 19:17).
